YU CHENG’EN, former deputy chief of the Longgang District Public Security Sub-bureau, was recently prosecuted for allegedly taking bribes.

According to Shenzhen People’s Procuratorate, Yu abused his power and took advantage of his post to take 4.74 million yuan (US$691,566), HK$550,000 (US$70,180) and US$70,000 in bribes while serving as an official at a police station in Nanshan District and deputy police chief in Nanshan and Longgang districts between 2007 and 2018.

Effective tidal lanes

THE nine tidal lanes that have been applied to urban roads have been proved effective at improving traffic and relieving congestion.

Among them, the 3.7-km northward tidal lane on the section of Caitian Road between Lianxin Road and Xincai Tunnel improved the traffic capacity by 31 percent. It greatly relieved congestion for vehicles traveling from Futian CBD to Longhua District.

Birds saved

THE forest police saved 16 birds that were being sold illegally at Futian Agricultural Produce Wholesale Market recently, acting on a clue provided by a local middle school student.

Starting Jan. 1, Guangdong has been enforcing a comprehensive ban on hunting wild birds.
