SHENZHEN has made an impressive presence at the 2019 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) with the participation of 456 enterprises at this year’s four-day event that will run until Friday.

This number accounts for one-10th of the participating enterprises from around the world and more than one-third of 1,210 Chinese enterprises, according to a report by the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily, quoting sources from Consumer Technology Association.

Shenzhen is followed by Dongguan, Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Guangzhou in number of participants. Each of the cities has around 30 enterprises participating in the event.

Besides some well-known brands like Huawei, Royole, TCL and DJI, which are displaying their latest products, some emerging enterprises are demonstrating achievements in AI, driverless vehicle and 8K technologies.

This year, artificial intelligence, smart homes and vehicles, drones, robotics, virtual reality and augmented reality are the main attractions at CES, the global stage for innovators to showcase their latest technologies.

A robot named Wukong (Monkey King) made by Shenzhen-based Ubtech Robotics Inc. won the prize for innovation at CES that opened in Las Vegas on Tuesday, according to a list released by the show’s organizer, Consumer Technology Association.

Another humanoid robot developed by the company named Walker also attracted visitors in its debut on the world stage by showing off its functions to control the switches for curtains or lights at their command.

The 1.45-meter-tall Walker, weighing 77 kilograms, not only has 36 high-performance servo joints and a force feedback system, but also has speech recognition and audio and visual systems for perceiving the environment.

Backed by Ubtech’s AI technologies, it can walk stably and operate with great flexibility while serving in the household by carrying bags, grabbing things and fetching drinks from the refrigerator.

This is the 11th year that TCL has participated in CES. It has set up the largest booth among Chinese companies attending the fair. In an area that covers 1,450 square meters, the company is displaying its latest technologies, including an X10 QLED 8K television. This new-tech television will be on the Chinese market in May, bringing 8K quality experience to viewers.

Skyworth is also initiating its global strategy at CES, which entails building high-end, high-quality products through partnerships and cooperation with high-end brands in technology, supply chain and content resources.

Skyworth is also displaying its 88-inch 8K OLED, which can buffer video content while offline.

Besides those brand names, some startups from Shenzhen are also showing the potential of the industry at CES.

Orbic, a company engaged in 3-D sensing technologies, is showcasing its latest products in cooperation with Bosch, Sony and HP. Its facial recognition payment system, developed in cooperation with Ant Financial, has already sold some 100,000 sets on the domestic market.

“Artificial intelligence 3-D sensing is a newly emerging industry that few enterprises have entered because of challenges in technological development,” said Orbic’s founder Chen Xu.

Orbic is one of the few players in the world that owns 3-D sensing technologies. The company has applied for 450 patents worldwide.

CES is the world’s largest gathering place for all who thrive on the business of consumer technologies. It has served as the proving ground for innovators and breakthrough technologies for 50 years — the global stage where next-generation innovations are introduced to the marketplace.

This year’s CES is hosting 180,000 participants.
