SHENZHEN residents can report crimes to the police through the 110 intelligent service platform of the Guangdong police that was launched Thursday.

The service platform can precisely locate the position of the people who report to police and communicate with them through audio, video and text, police said at the launch ceremony Thursday.

Reporting crimes through multiple media channels is an innovative approach. At Thursday’s promotional activities for the 110 service, the police said residents can use the Guangdong 110 app to report crimes to police.

Didi also launched its feature for reporting to police through a button on its app, according to a strategic cooperation agreement signed with the Guangdong Provincial Public Security Department on Thursday.

By pressing Call 110 on the feature labeled “One Button Reporting to Police,” the route and location of the app user will be sent directly to the Guangdong Police Command Center.

The 110 service hotline is regarded as a lifeline safeguarding people’s lives and property. The hotline often receives many reports on issues unrelated to police duties, such as financial disputes, forgetting keys, quarrels and even breakups.

Police have established an information-sharing platform with other hotline service platforms and suggest that residents call 114 if they want drivers to move cars that are blocking their own cars, 12348 for inquiries related to legal issues, 12345 for the government’s comprehensive service platform, and 12355 for the psychological service platform for juveniles.

In 2018, the Shenzhen police’s 110 service platform handled a total of 5.44 million reports, helped catch 3,914 criminals and search for 15,000 people who were reported missing, and saved 870 people from committing suicide, according to the police statistics.
