THEMED “Development of Design and Creative Industries in the Greater Bay Area,” the 2018 Hong Kong-Shenzhen Cultural and Creative Industries Forum was held at ONES in Qianhai on Friday, gathering policy makers from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, operators of creative industry parks and designers to share their views on the design and creative industries of the Greater Bay Area.

The forum was jointly organized by the Shenzhen City of Design Promotion Association and the Hong Kong Federation of Design Associations (FHKDA). It aims to encourage and facilitate cooperation and exchange projects in the design industry between Shenzhen and Hong Kong.

To further future cooperation and contribute to the development of the design and creative industries of Shenzhen and Hong Kong, FHKDA, Zetta-Bridge and Design Society signed a tripartite strategic agreement at the forum.

“I was quite amazed by the scale and quality of the exhibition. It has improved a lot. Products from the entire country are on display. Everyone uses their unique resources to create their unique products,” said Freeman Lau, secretary general of FHKDA.

Lau was impressed by a cultural and creative product from Dongguan. “The product utilizes the unique local resources, which surprises me. This tells me that the cooperation space of the Greater Bay Area is actually quite huge and the first step is to get to know each other.”

According to Lau, the preparatory work for the cooperation in the Greater Bay Area is in its preliminary stage. He hopes they can carry out some research projects in the first half of the year and showcase some achievements at the opening ceremony of Zetta-Bridge at the end of the year.

Han Wangxi, director of the Shenzhen City of Design Promotion Office, said the Shenzhen government is mulling over founding a Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao creation and design alliance.

Shenzhen will build 10 new cultural facilities, including Shenzhen Opera House, Shenzhen Oceanic Museum and New Hall of Shenzhen Art Museum, according to Han.

Since 2005, FHKDA has been dedicated to promoting cooperation and development in the design industry between Shenzhen and Hong Kong. In 2017, the Zetta-Bridge Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Design & Creative Industry Park project was launched in Shenzhen, marking closer cooperation between the two sides.
