INNOVATIVE designs never cease to amaze. A foldable bionic electric bicycle for off-roading, a 180-degree rotating refrigerator, a smart wardrobe that can help you match clothes and a portable outdoor lamp that can sense your location are just a few of the final entries in the 2018 Championship for Innovative Design.

The competition, which is held in cooperation with the design competition China Good Design, was launched in the city Sept. 27, 2018. The road show of finalists was held at Shenzhen Talent Park on Friday morning.

The final was divided into two parts, namely expert evaluation and group voting, and selected one first prize, two second prize, three third prize and six excellence prize winners.

Song Yingshi, a student at Dongguan University of Technology, won the first prize. Her device is a cutting board specifically designed for scallions, ginger and garlic. The board is equipped with three small different-colored saucers, which correspond to scallions, ginger and garlic.

A waste container in the upper right-hand corner is used to hold the leftover materials and can be pulled out and rinsed very conveniently. The cutting board was also voted as the design with the most potential to be commercialized.

A trading platform for children’s goods from Hubei Institute of Fine Arts and an intelligent egg boiler from South China University of Technology won the second prizes.

The award-winning projects included not only physical products that have already been made, but also creative works that are still in the development stage. The excellent works in the contest will be recommended to enter China Good Design, according to the organizer.

Shenzhen Institute for Innovative Design, the organizer of the contest, signed long-term strategic partnership agreements with Shenzhen Young Science and Technology Talents Association and Shenzhen Public Innovation Space Association at the event.

The three parties will work together on the commercialization of innovative designs, talent training and design services to give impetus to the development of the design industry.

The competition, in cooperation with nearly 200 colleges and universities, has been held successfully for two consecutive years since its launch in 2016.
