Ex-chief in Shajing jailed for corruption
    2019-01-16  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

ZHANG CHUNMING, former director of Shajing Subdistrict Office in Bao’an District, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for corruption, according to a report by the Southern Metropolis Daily on Tuesday, quoting a court source.

Between 2012 and 2017, when he worked as the chiefs in Songgang and Shajing subdistricts in Bao’an District, Zhang abused his power to extend favor to some companies, helping them win bids for engineering projects and urban renovation projects in exchange for bribes. He was also accused of taking bribes from his subordinates for job promotions.

Zhang took a total 38.51 million yuan (US$5.66 million) and HK$7.3 million (US$930,980) in bribes over the period, the court heard.

At the trial at Shenzhen Intermediate People’s Court, Zhang pleaded guilty to the corruption charges brought against him by the prosecutors, and he only questioned one count involving 500,000-yuan that he had received from his subordinates.

Among the bribes, the prosecutors confirmed seven counts of bribery from Zhang’s subordinates in Songgang Subdistrict and nine counts of bribery from village shareholding companies in the subdistrict.
