A total of 10 students were selected to attend the Montessori Model United Nations (MMUN) as little diplomats at the United Nations Headquarters in New York in March. Partnership with the United Nations, MMUN enables youth delegates from all over the world to negotiate, collaborate and compromise to reach acceptable solutions to world problems by simulating the operations of the United Nations. Resolutions that were passed by vote will be submitted to the UN Secretary General and be placed on file at the United Nations Headquarters. After four months, 30 students from 23 schools were selected from 1,000 students into the finals. At the finals of the Montessori Model United Nations Shenzhen Public Selection, which was held at the Longhua District Experimental School on January 6, the contestants were divided into six groups. Each group represents North Korea, Japan, South Korea, Russia, and the United States, and discussed “the increasing threat of nuclear weapons to the community of human destiny in the Asia-Pacific region.” The competition has five parts: opening speeches, informal consultations within the group, formal consultations, summary statements, national proposals and voting. The final 10 students to win the final competition will represent Shenzhen to discuss world affairs with more than 2,000 outstanding young people from more than 100 countries at the coming MMUN conference.
