Shenzhen Huangpu Primary School has been chosen to be the second school in the country to pilot an on-campus golf course, following Hongying Primary School in Beijing. A golf demonstration class organized by the China Golf Association was held at the school on January 16 and attended by representatives from education bureaus at the district level and over 50 primary schools. Wan Xianggui, principal of Shenzhen Huangpu Primary School, stated that golf courses were first introduced into physical education classes of Grade 3 and Grade 4 in May 2017, and then promoted to higher grades in September. By 2018, all of the students in Huangpu Primary School have had access to golf courses with 20 students accredited as young players of Futian District. In addition to in-class teaching, a series of golf events were also organized to enrich students’ after-school activities, including a golf competition held in May 2018 and the organization of a golf team on the middle school campus for outstanding players to display their talents. Kuang Yang, a member of the school’s golf team, stood out among his peers, pocketing 11 titles last year. According to a development plan released by the China Golf Association last October, major cities like Beijing and Shenzhen are recognized as testing grounds for on-campus golf to facilitate the combination of school education and sports training, through which more talents will be cultivated to be the reserve forces for professional golf players.
