Brazil toll hits 58

THE death toll from Brazil’s collapsed tailings dam climbed to 58, with 305 people still missing in southeastern Brazil’s Minas Gerais state, said local authorities.

The chances of finding more survivors of Friday’s tailings dam disaster “are really slim,” Eduardo Angelo, chief of the fire department, said Sunday.

Stone to ‘testify honestly’

ROGER STONE said he will “testify honestly” when asked whether he would consider cooperating with special counsel Robert Mueller III after he was charged with lying, obstruction and witness tampering in the investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 U.S. election.

The longtime Republican operative and friend of President Donald Trump told ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday: “If there’s wrongdoing by other people in the campaign that I didn’t know about — which I know of none — but if there is I would certainly testify honestly.”

Pilot blamed for crash

A BANGLADESHI airliner was misaligned with the runway and its pilot was disoriented and tried to land in “sheer desperation” when the plane crashed last year in Nepal, an investigation report said.

US-Bangla Airlines Flight BS211 from Dhaka crashed on its second landing attempt at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport on March 12, 2018. The 51 people killed were 28 Bangladeshi, 22 Nepalese and one Chinese national, and 20 others were injured. The pilot and co-pilot were among the dead.

The investigation report compiled by Nepalese officials also said the pilot had been released from the Bangladesh Air Force in 1993 due to depression and was only allowed to fly civilian planes from 2002 after a detailed medical evaluation.

Also, the pilot was under stress and emotionally disturbed and did not have enough sleep in the preceding night.
