Man has to make girlfriend fall in love with him every day
    2019-01-31  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A JAPANESE boyfriend is forced to make his girlfriend fall in love with him every day because of her severe amnesia — just like Hollywood blockbuster “50 First Dates.”

According to Oddity Central, 24-year-old Maruyama suffers from amnesia, leaving her fiancee Li Huayu constantly needing to remind her of their love.

Maruyama and Li have been together for two and a half years, but when Maruyama was hit by a car while riding her bike nine months ago, their lives changed completely.

When she woke up, she didn’t recognize any of the people in her life, including her parents and her boyfriend.

After a while, Maruyama’s physical injuries started to heal, but her memory didn’t return and even started to get so bad that it was all but wiped clean with each passing day.

Li made the difficult decision to call off the couple’s wedding, but far from giving up on his fiancee, he stayed by his girlfriend — convinced she would eventually remember him.

The doting boyfriend re-introduces himself to Maruyama every morning and shows her proof of their relationship.

But on one occasion she suggested they break up because of the strain on their relationship.

Li, however, told her, “You may have lost your memories, but we can make new ones.”

The story bears a remarkable resemblance to “50 First Dates,” a 2004 romantic comedy starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, in which Sandler woos Barrymore every day following an accident.

Maruyama’s doctors advised her to keep a diary to help her remember things she had done in the previous days.

And after re-reading how dedicated Li had been, she decided to propose to him.

“Thank you for your care during this time. You understand me very well and have always tolerated this sensitive and fragile version of me,” the young woman said.

“Recently my symptoms have become more and more serious. Doctors say that the amnesia may get even worse. I may lose my memory again, even forget you forever, are you still willing to be with me?”

“Because of my amnesia, I have the chance to fall in love with him again,” Maruyama said. “No matter how many times I lose my memory, I believe I will always fall in love with him.”
