Musical performance

SHENZHENERS will be able to enjoy the award-winning musical “School of Rock” during its three-month China tour. The musical will start its China tour in Shanghai on Feb. 22 and will also tour other cities including Guangzhou, Xiamen and Suzhou.

Based on American director Richard Linklater’s hit movie of the same name, “School of Rock” presents the story of a rock guitarist who disguises himself as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school and leads a band of straight-A students to chase their rock ’n’ roll dreams.

The musical won the Laurence Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Music in 2017 and received four Tony Awards nominations in 2016.

The music from “School of Rock” is composed by British composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, who also wrote hit songs in musicals such as “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Cats.”

Overseas waste

SHENZHEN Customs seized a total of 30 tons of waste smuggled from overseas last year, according to the customs Tuesday.

Industrial wastes, including plastics and hardware, are the most seen overseas wastes at ports in Shenzhen, the customs said.

Overloaded bus

A LONG-DISTANCE bus from Zhanjiang City in western Guangdong Province was stopped by Shenzhen traffic police officers in Bao’an District on Monday for overloading.

The bus, which had 34 seats, was carrying 53 people. The operator of the bus was ordered to dispatch another bus to take the passengers to their destination.

According to related laws, the operator and the driver of an overloaded bus will face criminal prosecution in addition to fines.
