Contract scam

A MAN was recently sentenced to three years in jail by Nanshan District People’s Court for a contract scam.

The man named Ran, who claimed to own a company, got to know a company manager surnamed Chen and contracted with Chen in April 2017 to provide timber at a price 10 percent lower than the market price if Chen agreed to pay 500,000 yuan (US$74,074) in advance to his company to purchase equipment for his factory in Chongqing.

After Ran got a 392,000-yuan advance payment, he disappeared. An investigation showed Ran doesn’t own a company and had executed a contract scam.

Back wage employer

A MAN surnamed Huang who owed 230,000 yuan in back wages to his employees was caught in his hometown in Yingde, Guangdong Province on Wednesday.

Huang ran a logistics company and was in debt. He disappeared before the Spring Festival holiday without paying 230,000 yuan in wages to his employees.

Expressway bridge

THE Dongzhou River Bridge of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen Expressway for northbound vehicles will be closed Saturday for the replacement of beams that were damaged by watercraft, according to sources from Guangdong Provincial Transportation Department.

The bridge beams were damaged Jan. 10 by a cargo ship, earlier media reports said.

During the replacement period between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m., the section between Machong and Xintang of the expressway will be closed, and vehicles from Shenzhen to Guangzhou are advised to find alternative routes.

Four tollgates on the expressway for entrances to Guangzhou will be closed. The expressway will be partially reopened after the replacements are completed. Full access to the expressway is expected to resume to the public before March 1, the transportation department said.
