SZ may skip late-spring coldness
    2019-02-15  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN may skip the late spring coldness that generally starts around March 11 in southern and central Guangdong Province as temperatures keep rising and there are no cold spells in sight to affect the city before the end of February, local Chinese-language media reported Thursday.

Meteorologically speaking, late-spring coldness refers to low temperatures (generally below 12 degrees Celsius) and rainy weather that lasts for at least three consecutive days in Guangdong, or daily average temperatures that are lower than 15 degrees Celsius with less than two hours of sunshine per day and last for more than seven days in a row.

According to the Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory, the city’s temperatures in the coming week range between 18 and 25 degrees Celsius.

Shenzhen residents have witnessed the hottest Spring Festival holiday in the city’s meteorological history since 1953. The average temperature during the holiday was 21 degrees Celsius.

On the eve of the Chinese New Year on Feb. 4, the maximum temperature reached 28.1 degrees Celsius, the second-highest temperature of any Spring Festival holiday in the city. The highest holiday temperature was 29 degrees Celsius recorded in 1953, according to the newspapers.

The city’s meteorological observatory estimates two rounds of slightly colder temperatures in Shenzhen on Feb. 20 and 28. (Han Ximin)
