Tall garbage bins draw complaints
    2019-02-20  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

RESIDENTS in Luohu District have complained about 1.8-meter-tall garbage bins that were recently put in some residential areas, saying the bins are too high and they need to use their hands to push open a trap door to dump waste.

Officials with the district’s urban administration said the high-capacity garbage bins are for sanitation workers and garbage-transporting enterprises to collect and transport domestic garbage. They also said that near the tall bins, there are also seven 1-meter-high garbage bins for residents to dispose of domestic waste such as glass, plastics and paper.

A Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reporter recently went to the Dawangyuan housing estate in Luohu, where he saw a garbage bin made of stainless steel that is about 1.8 meters tall and 1.5 meters wide. At the height of about 1.3 meters, there is a dodge gate that people can push open to insert garbage.

A woman surnamed Yu complained about the inconvenience caused by the bin’s height and lack of sanitation of the trap door, which was blotted.

Another resident living at the housing estate surnamed Wang, however, said that the tall bin had a good seal, gave no odor and would not attract mosquitoes or flies after garbage was inserted. “There are shortfalls in its design, of course,” Yu said.

Garbage bins used in the city’s residential areas are categorized based on their functions, either for storage or collection, officials with the district’s urban management bureau said. (SD News)
