Pangolin scales

SHENZHEN Bay Customs recently intercepted a mainland traveler who was carrying 4.3 kg of pangolin scales when crossing the border from Hong Kong at the Shenzhen Bay Checkpoint, the customs said Tuesday.

In a check, customs officers suspected the items that the traveler carried in his backpack were pangolin scales and delivered them to the South China Wildlife Identification Center for examination. The pangolin has been listed as an endangered wild animal in China.

The case has been handed over to the anti-smuggling department for further investigation.

Architecture awards

FIVE construction projects in Shenzhen — Futian High-speed Train Station, Xuefu Hospital Affiliated to Shenzhen University, Shenzhen Office Building of China Mobile, Shenzhen Metro Line 11 and teaching building of Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen — have won the national Lu Ban Awards, China’s top quality project award, sources from Shenzhen Construction Industry Association.

Industrial waste

SHEKOU Customs intercepted 25.9 tons of polyethylene plastic pellets, which are restricted from import, the customs said Tuesday.

On Dec. 26, Shekou Customs officers suspected the plastic pellets, which were declared to the customs for clearance by a company in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, were industrial waste that China has banned from import.
