Woman finds driver to express her gratitude
    2019-02-25  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A YEAR and a half ago, a pregnant woman ordered a driver through a car-hailing app and gave birth on the way to the hospital. The driver, who consoled her all the way and helped her find a doctor when they reached the hospital, drove away quietly afterwards.

The woman, surnamed Hu, had always wanted to find the kind-hearted driver and thank him in person. Now, she has finally found the good Samaritan thanks to her unceasing efforts, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported.

Hu’s daughter was born Oct. 18, 2017. At around 6:30 p.m. that day, Hu noticed that she was going into labor and immediately called a vehicle through the car-hailing app Uber.

Hu said she was in great pain and her amniotic fluid began to leak 10 minutes before they reached the hospital. “In less than a few minutes, the baby was born. My husband held the baby in his hands and the driver was comforting us while driving,” Hu was quoted as saying.

Hu said that when they arrived at the hospital, the driver told them to stay in the car while he ran into the hospital to find a doctor.

“I saw him rush into the hospital very quickly. In less than a minute or two, a doctor came out, cut the umbilical cord in the car and brought me to the emergency room,” Hu said.

Hu tried to find the driver and express her gratitude after she recovered, but the driver no longer worked for Uber. She contacted the reporter from the Daily on Thursday.

The driver, surnamed Yan, was eventually found according to clues such as the license plate number and the driver’s name.

Yan felt a bit moved when hearing that Hu had been searching for him. “I’m sure anyone would help when they saw it, but it’s still very touching that someone would remember you for such a long time in their heart,” Yan was quoted as saying.
