THE lawyers for Meng Wanzhou are suing the Canadian Government, its border agency and federal police, arguing that the chief financial officer (CFO) of Chinese tech giant Huawei was detained, searched and interrogated for three hours in violation of her constitutional rights, China Central Television reported yesterday. Meng, also the daughter of Huawei’s founder Ren Zhengfei, was arrested during transit in Vancouver on Dec. 1 at the request of the United States. Washington claims that Meng has violated U.S. sanctions against Iran. She is “seeking damages for misfeasance in public office and false imprisonment” after suffering “serious breaches of her constitutional rights” when detained at Vancouver International Airport, attorneys Howard Mickelson and Allan Doolittle said in a statement.(CGTN) |
