Love scam

A WOMAN in Bao’an District was cheated out of 500,000 yuan (US$74,550) by her so-called boyfriend who claimed to be a member of the country’s intelligence organization and kept her bank accounts out of safety concerns.

The woman, Wu, realized she had been cheated Jan. 27 when she found that all of her money in bank, Alipay and WeChat accounts had been transferred by the man, surnamed Zou.

Zou and Wu got to know each other in December 2018. After they established a relationship, Zou told Wu that he would be participating in a secret mission. As he had used Wu’s phone before, he feared Wu might be in danger if her location had been identified, so he held on to her smartphones.

Zou has been criminally detained.

Death liability

A COMPANY manager and a foreman have been sentenced to 14 months and 12 months in jail, respectively, for their liability in the death of their employee, a street cleaner, in a traffic accident in 2017.

The street cleaner, surnamed Liang, was hit by a car and fell from Shennan Flyover on Xinzhou Road. The company manager, surnamed Liu, and the foreman were arrested in April 2018 for safety negligence and putting their employee in danger by requiring Liang to maintain roads. The van driver was partially liable.

Fastest transit city

SHENZHEN was recently rated the fastest transit city in a report jointly conducted by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Future Transport and City Calculation Joint Lab.

In 2018, the city’s Metro network made 1.87 billion trips, or 5.14 million a day.

By 2020, seven new lines will have been put into use.

NIKE smuggler

A WOMAN was caught by Shenzhen Bay Customs carrying more than 100 pairs of NIKE shoes in a van entering the mainland Feb. 28.

The shoes have a market value of 100,000 yuan.

The case has been handed to the anti-smuggling department for investigation.
