TOP POLITICAL ADVISORY BODY CONCLUDES ANNUAL SESSION
    2019-03-14  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE Second Session of the 13th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the top political advisory body, held its closing meeting yesterday morning.

President Xi Jinping and other Chinese leaders attended the closing meeting at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

China’s top political adviser Wang Yang called on political advisers to build consensus in their work and understand the importance of continuous learning at the meeting.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and the establishment of the CPPCC.

Wang told political advisers to stay to the mission, grasp the CPPCC’s new historical orientation, and learn from experience and wisdom to promote its development.

Wang asked political advisers to understand the importance, urgency and long-term nature of continuous learning.

Learning concerns the progress of political advisers and the future of the cause of the CPPCC,  while focusing on learning is a longstanding tradition and a significant task of the CPPCC, Wang noted.

Wang pointed out the CPPCC in the new era should have a new appearance and its members should also have a new image.

“We should advocate innovation and dare to innovate to play an important role in political consultation, democratic oversight, and participation in and deliberation of State affairs,” he told CPPCC members.

The CPPCC has no honorary members, only responsible members, the top political adviser stressed.

He said all CPPCC members should do their duty and exert their effort in their work concerning with State affairs and people’s livelihood.

At the closing meeting, CPPCC members adopted a political resolution, supporting major reports delivered during the Two Sessions.

The document said political advisers echoed Xi’s call for strengthening cultural confidence and adhering to the people-centered principle.

The document also called for cutting taxes, improving the country’s business environment and furthering supply-side structural reform.

CPPCC members also passed a report on their proposal-related work. Many of the proposals focus on the “three tough battles” and high-quality development. Improving people’s livelihood topped the agenda.

As of March 7, political advisers had submitted 5,113 proposals since the session started  March 3.

After examination, 3,859 proposals were put on file, which included 3,499 from CPPCC members and 360 from other groups.(SD-Xinhua)
