Hit-and-run

A MAN has been caught after a hit-and-run accident that killed a 58-year-old woman who was crossing the road in the middle of the night in Bao’an District.

After the accident March 9, the driver, surnamed Cao, was afraid to get out of his car and chose to flee the scene by leaving his car 160 meters away.

Police caught Cao the following day. According to Chinese law, hit-and-run drivers face at least seven years in prison.

The case is still under investigation.

GPS terminals

INTELLIGENT terminals with a GPS function installed in cabs helped passengers retrieve a total of 5,680 items that they had left in cabs last year.

The items were worth about 26.35 million yuan (US$3.93 million), the city’s public transport bureau said. All traditional cabs in the city, 22,000 in total, have had the intelligent terminal system installed.

Year-end prize

A COMPANY in Nanshan District was ordered by a court to pay the remaining 90,000 yuan it owed to an employee who had won at a mid-year party through a lottery.

The company gave out 20,000 yuan in cash, but failed to honor the rest, even before an employee surnamed Li resigned from the company. Li brought the company to court and it ruled in her favor. The company has appealed the court’s ruling.
