LI TIE, a deputy from Shenzhen to the national legislature and also manager with an education investment company, suggested establishing a South China university of political science and law to cultivate more talents in this field, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

“There is no political science and law university in South China, which should not be the case, and I think the best place to establish the university is Shenzhen,” said Li.

According to Li, although Guangdong has many universities, it falls behind in law education, which is inconsistent with its economic and social development.

Before the annual session of the National People’s Congress, Li conducted many researches, all of which suggested that Guangdong has a lot of room for law education.

Li said that the development of the rule of law is necessary for Guangdong to create a first-class business environment, but the current law schools in universities cannot satisfy the demand.

Additionally, Li said the suggestion will play a role in the Greater Bay Area, as there are three different law systems. “So we need to cultivate more interdisciplinary talents who know these laws through law education,” said Li.

As for the reason that Shenzhen is the best place to build the university, Li said that Shenzhen has a convenient location, being close to Hong Kong, and a strong economic foundation. Moreover, Shenzhen has achieved great results in developing new types of university, like the Southern University of Science and Technology.

“This suggestion has been welcomed by Shenzhen’s education departments, and we hope it will be put into practice as soon as possible,” said Li.
