原生家庭

Meaning:

Translated from the English term “family of origin,” “原生家庭” refers to the family that you grew up in — your parents and siblings. It may also include grandparents, other relatives, or divorced parents who lived with you. A popular Chinese TV series titled “Dou Ting Hao” (“Everybody’s Fine”) has started heated online debate on the tremendous influence of a person’s family of origin on their later life.

Example:

A: 最近有部电视剧特别火。

Zuìjìn yǒu bù diànshìjù tèbié huǒ。

A Chinese TV series has gone viral recently.

B: 你说的一定是《都挺好》。

Nǐ shuō de yīdìng shì 《dōutǐnghǎo》。

You must be talking about “Everybody’s Fine.”

A: 是啊,讲了成功女性苏明玉和她原生家庭的种种矛盾,引起大家的共鸣。

Shì a,jiǎng le chénggōng nǚxìng sūmíngyù hé tā yuánshēng jiātíng de zhǒngzhǒng máodùn,yǐnqǐ dàjiā de gòngmíng。

Yeah. Focusing on the confrontations between successful woman Su Mingyu and her family of origin, the show resonates with audiences.
