TAIWAN AFFAIRS CHIEF MEETS KAOHSIUNG MAYOR IN SZ
    2019-03-26  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

LIU JIEYI, head of the Taiwan Work Office of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, met with Kaohsiung Mayor Han Kuo-yu yesterday, who is leading a delegation on a visit to Shenzhen.

Welcoming the delegation, Liu said compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits are of the same family.

“We welcome and support cities on both sides, on the basis of upholding the 1992 Consensus, to enhance exchanges and jointly seek development, to bring Taiwan compatriots a stronger sense of fulfillment,” Liu said.

He said the mainland is willing to let Taiwan compatriots be the first to share its development opportunities. The two sides should deepen the integrated development and enhance the free flow of trade, he said.

He urged compatriots on both sides of the Straits to be united in adhering to the 1992 Consensus, firmly oppose “Taiwan independence,” jointly push forward the peaceful development of cross-Straits relations and make the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation a reality.

Han said the 1992 Consensus is the key stand in cross-Straits relations and that he hopes to enhance economic and trade exchanges with mainland cities so as to improve the well-being of more Taiwan residents.

Han arrived in Shenzhen on Sunday. Later in the day, Shenzhen Party chief Wang Weizhong and Mayor Chen Rugui met with the visiting delegation.

Also on Sunday, Han paid a visit to a youth innovation and entrepreneurship base in Qianhai and an urban operation management center, and watched a light show in Futian.

Before Han and other members of the delegation came to Shenzhen, they also visited Hong Kong and Macao.

Han arrived in Hong Kong on Friday, attended an agricultural product promotion event and witnessed the signing of eight deals on selling Kaohsiung’s agricultural, fishery and processed products.

Before the signing ceremony, Han met with Hong Kong top leader Carrie Lam.

The delegation left Hong Kong on Saturday morning and headed for Macao via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge.

Macao Chief Executive Chui Sai On met with Han on Saturday to promote economic and trade exchanges between the two regions.
