一把梭
    2019-04-01  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Meaning:

“一把” means “all at once,” and “梭” is short for “梭哈,” which is the transliteration of the English term “show hand.” Show hand, a slang term for five-card stud, is a stud poker game similar to Texas poker, though it is simpler and the winning depends more on luck. As a popular poker game in Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao and the Philippines, the game has frequently appeared in Hong Kong gambling movies. Therefore, gamblers and Chinese stock investors have used the term “一把梭” to mean “to go all in,” i.e., betting everything on a hand (one stock).

Example:

A: 最近有朋友推荐了一只股票,我打算一把梭了。

Zuìjìn yǒu péngyǒu tuījiàn le yīzhī gǔpiào,wǒ dǎsuàn yībǎsuō le。

A friend recently recommended a stock to me, and I’m planning to go all in.

B: 别把投资股市当成赌博,也不要把鸡蛋放在一个篮子里。

Bié bǎ tóuzī gǔshì dāngchéng dǔbó,yě búyào bǎ jīdàn fàng zài yīgè lánzi lǐ。

Don’t mistake stock investment for gambling, and never put all your eggs in one basket.
