Gigs at B10 Live this week

The Chairs

The Chairs is an indie folk rock band from Taiwan. With clear sonority and a very fresh and outspoken approach to indie rock as a whole, their songs sound immediately remarkable, with a cautious but nevertheless extrovert identity thrown into it. With songs amazingly built at the core of melodic resonances, elements of fresh pop, and layered marks of delicate and original pieces of soft indie music, urban scenes and a young generations flavor subtlety added as primary ingredients, their songs have an intriguing, bold and daring originality. Although a lot of their songs are in English and the influence of Western music is apparent in their works, to a certain extent, The Chairs manages to build a sonorous identity of their own, being interchangeably lucid, incredibly solicit and astonishingly sincere, all at the same time.

Time: 8:30 p.m., April 6

Tickets: 80 yuan

Still Corners

Still Corners is a London-based dream pop/synthpop band formed in 2007, consisting of songwriter/producer Greg Hughes and vocalist Tessa Murray. With influences that span the spacey experiments of Vangelis, the expansive, cinematic sounds of Ennio Morricone and the clean-toned guitar stylings of The Shadows, Still Corners released EP “Don’t Fall in Love” through British psychedelia label the Great Pop Supplement in 2010. Selling all 700 copies in a single day made record label Sub Pop take due notice and quickly sign the group. Their first full-length album “Creatures of an Hour” was released by Sub Pop in 2011. By the time their second record came out in 2013, Still Corners had shifted focus from the 1960s influences to a more 1980s-sound inspired by Roxy Music’s Avalon. Another Sub Pop release, “Strange Pleasures,” includes the hit single “Fireflies.”

To record their third album, Murray and Hughes relocated from London to the seaside. Moved by the water’s intense dark color, they named the set of songs “Dead Blue.” The album, which featured the Brian Wilson-inspired single “Lost Boys,” was released on Still Corners’ very own Wrecking Light Records in 2016 and was the highest-rated dream pop album on “The Line of Best Fit” in 2016. Still Corners returned in 2018 with a new album, “Slow Air.” Evoking the atmospheric sounds Still Corners is known for, “Slow Air” continues the band’s journey with a lush, ethereal album.

Time: 8:30 p.m., April 7

Tickets: 130 yuan

Xian Tong

Post-rock/chamber-pop band Xian Tong was formed in 2016 in Weihai, Shandong Province by former guitarist of popular Beijing band Nuclear Fusion-G. Xian Tong’s current lineup includes guitarist Bo Wen, drummer Li Wei and bassist Niu Yinong. Artist Sun Ye paints and creates posters and album covers for all of Xian Tong’s releases.

Time: 8:30 p.m., April 4

Tickets: 100 yuan

Perpetual Motion Machine

Founded in Beijing, Perpetual Motion Machine combines weird rhythm with the characteristics of East Asian culture. Their guitar is simple and the bass is complicated. In short, if you have only heard of their songs, while not seeing their live shows, come to this live concert; it will be a whole new experience.
