“Energy,” curated by Liu Ke and Ji Ran, attempts to present the nature of art production. Namely, the exhibition examines creation, circulation and reproduction in the five artists’ creative energy in their own artistic systems, as well as the energy transfer between their artworks and viewers.

Participating artists in the exhibition are Liu Qingyuan, Luo Peng, Tang Xiao, Wu Xiaohai and Zhao Jun.

Woodcarving represents the starting point of Liu’s creations. His works include social practice, experimental art education and crossover media. These aspects constitute a complete system of symbol output, which forms convection between the social structure and his individual symbols, exciting their energy in relation to each other.

The energy of Luo’s works originates from the constant change of his creation state. The form of his works has changed from romantic realism to structuralism, and then physical action setting in the current context. His works have also transformed from classical sculpture to contemporary sculpture gradually, becoming more and more fluid.

Tang starts from abstract art. He avoids the static form of abstract, pursues the creation of flat space and the expression of vision, and turns the visual form into the longitudinal association between the spiritual and material. Unique materials and scale form his structural energy system.

Wu utilizes multi-level media to present the complexity of social image and history, and creates a longitudinal space-time energy flow. Meanwhile, he also puts experimental operations and development of art space around his logic of creation, which makes up a personal art map.

Zhao’s painting begins with his thoughts about the dislocation of object “stacking.” In-depth study in phenomenology makes his paintings show tension of the corresponding relationship between the phenomenon and the essence in form, and endow the form of the abstract with the “reality” with real energy.

The exhibition opens to the public free of charge.
