Free Sunday events at concert hall
    2019-04-11  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

This Sunday, Ye Xiaogang will give a free lecture on the beauty of Chinese music at Shenzhen Concert Hall.

Ye, 53, is regarded as one of China’s leading contemporary composers. His oeuvre comprises symphonic works, a range of chamber music, stage works and film music, the majority of which is inspired by Chinese culture and traditions. His “Song of the Earth” for soprano and orchestra has been performed in New York, Munich, Berlin and other cities. In August 2008, his piano concerto “Starry Sky” was premiered at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games by Lang Lang. In his lecture, he will teach audiences how to appreciate contemporary music.

The pipa is a predominate instrument of the Chinese plucked-string instrument family dating back to more than two millennia ago. On April 21, Yue Pipa Chamber Orchestra led by Zhang Ying, chief pipa player of Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, will perform works including “Kucha Dances,” “Dragon Boat” and “Whisper of Pipa.” A performing artist, Zhang is also a tutor at four Hong Kong colleges and a gold medal winner for pipa at the Longyin Cup International Chinese Instrument Competition. The other four members of the troupe are from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and have all won top awards at competitions at home and abroad.

Audience members can claim free tickets to the events at Shenzhen Concert Hall’s official WeChat: szyinyuet.
