New national standards on e-bikes implemented
    2019-04-16  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

A SERIES of new standards for e-bikes went into effect yesterday, which means unqualified e-bikes are now banned from being produced or sold, sznews.com reported yesterday.

Under the new standards, e-bikes should have a speed limit of 25 km per hour and be equipped with pedals to ensure they will still function in the event of motor breakdown. They also should weigh no more than 55 kg, and their voltage and motor power should be confined to within 48 volts and 400w.

Market regulators across the country have been asked to step up management of the compulsory certification for electric bicycles, according to a document jointly issued by the State Administration for Market Regulation, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and the Ministry of Public Security on March 14.

They have also been asked to strictly check if businesses are manufacturing or selling products that do not comply with the new standards and prevent such products from being certified or otherwise entering the market, the document said.

Violators will be ordered to cease the manufacture and sale of unqualified products and pay relevant fines. They could also face revocation of their business licenses and criminal penalties.
