Free classical music concert by SZSO
    2019-04-16  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra (SZSO) will present Tchaikovsky’s “Variations on a Rococo Theme,” Wieniawski’s “Violin Concerto No. 2” and Shostakovich’s “Violin Concerto No. 1.” The orchestra’s music director Lin Daye will wield the baton. Young Chinese cellist Namisa Sun and violinists Su Mingxuan and Wu Xiyue will be soloists.

“Variations on a Rococo Theme” for cello and orchestra was inspired by Mozart, Tchaikovsky’s role model, and makes it clear that Tchaikovsky admired the Classical period style very much. Wieniawski’s second violin concerto remains one of the greatest violin concertos of the Romantic era, memorable for its lush and moving melodies and harmonies. Shostakovich’s “Violin Concerto No. 1” is not only a major individual accomplishment but also a major contributor to the violin concerto in its four-movement form.

Time: 8 p.m., April 23

Venue: Theater in MixC World, Nanshan District (南山区深圳万象天地剧场)
