City mulls lifting ban on two dog breeds
    2019-04-18  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN is mulling whether to remove a ban on the ownership of Chinese rural dogs and English bulldogs, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

The city’s market regulator recently issued a list of 25 banned dog breeds, which removed Chinese rural dogs and English bulldogs from the 27 breeds currently banned.

Although enjoying popularity among dog-loving residents, Chinese rural dogs and English bulldogs are not allowed to be kept in Shenzhen, which has resulted in more stray dogs across the city, according to the Daily.

Currently, there are more than 80,000 Chinese rural dogs and 10,000 English bulldogs in Shenzhen, statistics from the Shenzhen Pet Medical Association show.

The 25 banned dog breeds are Tibetan Mastiff, Pit Bull Terrier, Dogo Argentina, Fila Braziliero, Japanese Tosa, Central Asian Shepherd Dog, Chinese Chongqing Dog, Borzoi, Bull Terrier, Mastiff, Cane Corso, Great Dane, Caucasian Owtcharka, Neopolitan Mastiff, Staffordshire Terrier, Afghan Hound, Pointer, Weimaraner, Setter, Bloodhound, Basset Hound, Akita, Newfoundland, Bedlington Terrier and Kerry Blue Terrier.

The city is soliciting public opinions on the list until Sunday. Residents can send emails with suggestions to xdny@szmqs.gov.cn. (Zhang Yu)
