Carol Tsang, an alumna of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, is exhibiting her photographic works at the university’s Shenzhen campus. Entry is free.

In this exhibition, Tsang captures the dreamy illusion of nature from a brand new angle. Using a surrealistic method, her works represent life and growth in nature, and the endless cycles of the world. As shown in the piece “Crisp Breeze,” what we see through her lens is not the separation of animals and nature, the diversity of time and space, but a mélange of life bursting within every one of her works.

Tsang also combines the Chinese and Western art forms. In her works, one can find the great magnificence of oriental landscape ink paintings, as well as the kind of ever-changing light and shadow that is featured in Western impressionistic paintings.

She has found an entry point for integrating the two presentation styles and ingeniously records the scene on the film in the form of reflection, so that people can see both the maple and the water in the “world of a kaleidoscope.”

Each photo on display was a gift from nature recorded by Tsang. She blends time and space delicately, showing people the rapid changes of nature and letting them understand the true meaning of life.

“The works tell Carol’s philosophy of life — maybe life is like a reflection in the water. It’s not necessarily crystal clear, and sometimes ignorance is bliss,” said Joyce Chen, senior specialist of Christie’s Asian 20th Century Art and Contemporary Art Department.

Tsang has obtained a master’s degree in fine art from RMIT Australia, and is an associate of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain and a member of the Board of Trustees of Chung Chi College. Devoted to art for more than 20 years, Tsang has strived to explore numerous mediums, such as ceramics, painting, flower arrangement, glass and installation, and has been focused on examining the visual language of photography for the past decade. Her works have been well received in various joint exhibitions since 1990 and in solo exhibitions since 2001. Tsang is also a golfer, a cyclist and a generous benefactor who actively participates in charity exhibitions.
