Tourists safe

A TOTAL of 115 people in seven tour groups from Shenzhen were reported safe after multiple blasts shook Sri Lanka on Sunday, according to Shenzhen Travel Association.

Murder order

A WOMAN was arrested by the police for hiring a hitman to murder her ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend.

The woman, surnamed Xie from Jiangsu Province, broke up with her boyfriend and was outraged to find that the latter had found new love. Xie contacted a man surnamed Du on the Internet, who claimed to be a hitman with an international assassin group, and paid him a deposit of 13,000 yuan (US$1,944.7).

Du, 22, was in fact a worker in a Shenzhen factory and pretended to be a hitman on the Internet to swindle people. Du was held under criminal detention on suspicion of fraud.

Ex-official arrested

THE Guangdong Provincial People’s Procuratorate has decided to have Li Huanan, former deputy secretary of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC and secretary of the political and law commission of the Shenzhen CPC committee, arrested for allegedly taking bribes.

Polluters fined

THE Shenzhen environment authority issued 298 million yuan in fines on 2,938 polluters in 2018, a year-on-year increase of 23.1 percent in terms of the amount of fines.

Among the polluters, three enterprises were fined 4.4 million yuan. The fines were calculated by the number of polluting days. A total of 139 factories were closed, and 146 were ordered to halt production.
