Foundation donates to Tsinghua
    2019-04-24  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

SHENZHEN Parkland Foundation donated 330 million yuan (US$49 million) to Tsinghua University at a recent ceremony.

Xu Hang, the initiator of the foundation and alumnus of the university, said the fund will be used for medical science research, and arts and humanities education, in order to improve the medical emergency aid level at Tsinghua University and play its part in the development of higher learning in China.

Xu donated to the university multiple times in the past decade. This donation was the largest amount contributed by a Tsinghua alumnus on the mainland.

After receiving the donation certificate at the ceremony Friday, Xu, chairman of Parkland Group, said Strive, Create and Repay is the motto that he acquired during his years studying at Tsinghua University. The One Shenzhen Bay, developed by Parkland, is a landmark of the company’s development over the past decade.

Xu started his philanthropic undertaking in 2008 with the largest single donation from a Tsinghua University alumnus that year for the construction of the new Tsinghua Auditorium. In 2018, Xu initiated Shenzhen Parkland Foundation, hoping to repay society with the wealth the company had acquired.

Xu graduated from the computer science department of Tsinghua University in 1979.
