Ex-senior official arrested

MENG HONGWEI, former vice minister of public security, has been arrested for allegedly taking bribes, according to a statement from the Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP) yesterday.

Meng’s case was transferred to procurators for investigation and prosecution after an investigation by the National Supervisory Commission had been concluded, the statement said.

Quake hits Tibet

A 6.3-MAGNITUDE earthquake jolted Medog County in Nyingchi City, Southwest China’s Tibet Autonomous Region, at 4:15 a.m. yesterday, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The epicenter was monitored at 28.40 degrees north latitude and 94.61 degrees east longitude.
