“地域” means “regional.” “拖油瓶,” which literally means “a dragged oil bottle,” is a derogatory term referring to “underage children from a previous marriage,” since these children were often thought of as unwanted by their step parents in the past. Chinese netizens coined the new term last year to refer to those who don’t fit the stereotype of where they come from. For example, this term can refer to a Sichuan native who cannot eat spicy food or a Xinjiang native who cannot sing and dance.
