Distinctive cultural elements dazzle in Luohu venue
    2019-05-21  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

WALKING into the main venue of Luohu District at the 15th China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair (ICIF), it is hard not to notice the exhibition area designated to display the district’s cultural enterprises, an area where both traditional and modern cultural elements have been highlighted.

“Consumers can only see the design provided by the seller when they go to the jewelry store. But through this system, they can choose their favorite design and make it customized,” said a man surnamed Mo with Ybcool, a jewelry design company based in Luohu District.

“Look at the flowers and birds on the embroidery. It looks like dew is falling down,” exclaimed a visitor, who was captivated by the Suzhou embroidery made by a craftsman surnamed Gu at the exhibition area. Gu runs a business at the Sungang Art and Craft City in the district.

A number of intangible cultural heritage projects have also been showcased in the exhibition area, giving visitors a face-to-face encounter with intangible cultural heritage masters.

The projects presented mainly include paper cutting, the art of decorating snuff bottles from the inside, face painting, and whistling tunes with leaves.

‘We’ve been striving to promote traditional culture and intangible cultural heritage to the market,” said the head of the district’s intangible cultural heritage protection association. He added that the association will continue to promote traditional culture in different forms, and particularly to create more opportunities for children to approach these projects.

In addition to the exhibition area for local cultural enterprises, Luohu has also set up another three exhibition areas in the main venue, which is located in Hall 1 of the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center.

The other three exhibition areas are the 40th anniversary of Luohu’s founding area, the copyright industry area and the policy support area, which are aimed at underscoring the development and advancement of the district’s cultural and creative industries.

The ICIF, which kicked off Thursday, wrapped up yesterday.
