Fugitive caught

HUANG GUOYONG, former chairman of Liantang Property Development Co. Ltd., was recently prosecuted for allegedly taking bribes, sources from Shenzhen Municipal People’s Procuratorate said.

Huang was on the run in Australia shortly after Luohu District People’s Procuratorate started an investigation in December 2002 into his alleged crimes. He had received Australian citizenship but surrendered to Chinese authorities in December 2018.

According to prosecutors, Huang allegedly abused his power and took bribes totaling 2.83 million yuan (US$410,067) between 1985 and 1999 when he worked as an executive at Liantang Property Development Co. Ltd.

Payment code swap

FOUR suspects who are natives of Huilai in Guangdong Province were caught by Longgang police for swapping the payment QR codes at shops with their own codes to cheat the shops. They had been involved in a dozen cases in Pinghu and Dongguan.

On Saturday, the Pingnan police station received a report from Huang, the owner of a phone maintenance shop, saying his customer had paid 80 yuan by scanning the WeChat QR code at his shop, but he hadn’t received the money. He later found the printed QR code had been replaced by others.
