Chamber music fans will be treated to a lecture concert this Sunday evening in town.

The program will include Christoph Willibald Gluck’s “Melody,” Handel’s “Passacaglia,” “Humoresques” by Dvorak and the first movement of “Piano Trio No. 1 in B Major” by Brahms.

In its original form, “Piano Trio No. 1 in B Major” is perhaps Brahms’ most unabashedly Romantic creation, revealing the passion and sensitivity of the then 20-year-old composer. The work was first composed in 1854 and then revised in 1890. Brahms never formally withdrew the original, allowing both versions to exist.

Performed by two members of the Trio Prisma in collaboration with violinist Liu Ming, the concert will be emceed by Taiwanese classical music critic Chiao Yuan-pu, who will lead the audience through a night of the classical chamber music repertoire and help them better appreciate the music.

Formed in 2013, Trio Prisma consists of cellist Geng Wenbin, pianist Zhu Yuanchen and violinist Zhang Runyin, all prized students from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music (SCM). The trio came at the second place at the Schoenfeld Competition in the category of chamber music and won the gold at the Chinese Golden Bell Awards for Music shortly after it was founded.

Liu, also from SCM, came in at sixth place at the 2016 Shanghai Isaac Stein International Violin Competition and was the only Chinese finalist at the prestigious competition. She steps in for Zhang, who is in Brussels, Belgium competing at the Queen Elisabeth Competition.

Chiao has published volumes of books on classical music, including a collection of interviews with the world’s most famous contemporary pianists such as Rosalyn Tureck, Krystian Zimerman and Lilya Zilberstein.
