FM: US CRACKDOWN ON HUAWEI TYPICAL ECONOMIC BULLYING
    2019-05-24  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

WITH the use of state power, U.S. groundless crackdown on the private Chinese company Huawei is typical economic bullying, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi told reporters in Bishkek, Kyrgyz, on Wednesday.

During a press conference on the sidelines of the meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Council of Foreign Ministers, Wang said some people in the United States do not want China to have legitimate rights to development and attempt to impede China’s development process.

A typical example is that Washington uses its state power to unjustifiably suppress Huawei without any factual basis, Wang said, adding that “this is typical economic bullying.”

Such an egocentric approach by the United States will not win the recognition and support of the international community, said Wang.

Also on Thursday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said at a daily press briefing in Beijing that China hopes all countries in the world will continue providing a fair, just, stable and predictable business environment for Chinese enterprises, which also serves the fundamental and long-term interests of their own.

He made the remarks when answering a question about German chipmaker and semiconductor manufacturer Infineon and Japan’s Panasonic issuing statements that they did not stop their supplies to Huawei.

Lu said the declaration of these Huawei partners indicated that no companies in any country would disregard their own interests and blindly follow the political arrangements of another country.

In fact, most countries were highly vigilant against the U.S. Government’s use of state power to suppress enterprises of other countries, interfere with market operations and obstruct mutually beneficial cooperation among other countries, Lu said.

He said the Chinese Government would continue supporting its technology companies, including Huawei, to deepen cooperation with foreign countries, which is conducive to the mutually beneficial cooperation between enterprises, and helps promote global progress in science and technology as well as economic development.

Ministry of Commerce  spokesperson Gao Feng yesterday urged the U.S. to correct its mistakes, in response to fresh U.S. sanctions on 13 Chinese entities.

A total of 10 Chinese firms and three individuals were sanctioned after allegedly engaging “in activities that warrant the imposition of measures pursuant to Section 3 of the Iran, North Korea, and Syria Nonproliferation Act,” according to a notice by the U.S. Department of State on Wednesday.

Gao said China had lodged solemn representations with the U.S. after it blocked Chinese telecoms equipment maker Huawei from buying U.S. goods.

“The best response towards U.S. trade bullying is to continue to grow and develop to provide goods of high quality to the whole world,” Gao added.

Gao emphasized that the U.S. must show “sincerity” if trade talks are to continue.

He stressed that Beijing would “not yield” on major principles.
