New startups

THE Shenzhen Economic Daily has initiated a selection of 70 innovative startups, attracting applications from many local enterprises.

A list of 70 innovative startups will be released during the National Day holiday.

SZ patents

SHENZHEN is trying to keep its leading position in the number of patented inventions in China through policy support to protect intellectual property rights (IPR).

According to an action plan for 2019 to 2021 to develop a city with strong IPR protection, Shenzhen is trying to increase the number of patented inventions by 5,000 a year. By 2021, the number of patents will reach 130,000 and the number of patented inventions owned will reach 93 for every 10,000 residents.

Chicken feet

SHENZHEN Customs seized 2.9 tons of smuggled chicken feet in 232 cartons from a container truck that was declared empty at Wenjindu Checkpoint on Monday.

In a routine inspection, customs officers found the chicken feet, which were produced in Brazil, hidden in the container truck. Some of the chicken feet had deteriorated in quality and some had even turned black. So far this year, Wenjindu Customs has seized 903.72 tons of smuggled frozen chicken feet in six separate cases.

Smoking scuffle

A MAN is facing a fine of 500 yuan (US$72) for starting a scuffle Wednesday after law enforcement officers attempted to stop him from smoking on a footbridge leading to Caopu Station on Metro Line 3. One law enforcement officer was slightly injured.

Footbridges leading to Metro stations and areas near Metro stations have been added to the list of public nonsmoking areas by the city’s tobacco control office.
