Seven dead

SEVEN people have been killed and nearly 200,000 residents affected since a heavy downpour hit South China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region last Saturday, local authorities said yesterday.

The regional emergency management administration said that influenced by weak cold air, and warm and humid air currents from the sea, rainstorms had affected 21 counties of seven cities in Guangxi.

Housing and infrastructure damage as well as natural disasters including landslides and floods have been reported, according to the administration.

Metro tunnel collapse

THREE workers have been confirmed dead and two others still missing following a collapse at a metro tunnel construction site in Qingdao, East China’s Shandong Province, the project undertaker said yesterday.

Qingdao Metro said the collapse occurred at 5:40 p.m. Monday at a construction site of the No. 4 Metro Line, and when five workers were trapped.

By yesterday morning, rescuers had found the bodies of three workers. The search is continuing.

Short video market

THE country’s short video market saw explosive growth of 744.7 percent year on year to 46.7 billion yuan (US$6.8 billion) in 2018, according to a report released Monday.
