TWO of China’s ministries yesterday issued alerts for Chinese tourists and institutions to raise their security awareness in the United States.

A travel alert issued by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism yesterday noted the frequent occurrence of shootings, robberies and theft in the United States recently.

The ministry warned Chinese tourists to fully assess the risks of traveling there.

Chinese tourists are urged to learn about the public security situation and related laws and regulations of tourist destinations, to raise safety awareness and step up precautions to stay safe.

Also, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday issued another alert and Chen

Xiongfeng, deputy director-general of the Department of Consular Affairs of the ministry, told a press briefing that U.S. law enforcement agencies have repeatedly used various methods, such as immigration checks and on-site interviews, to harass Chinese citizens recently.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Chinese Embassy and consulates in the United States reminded Chinese citizens traveling to the United States and Chinese-funded institutions in the United States to raise their security awareness, step up precautions, and take appropriate and preventative measures.

In the case of an emergency, please contact the Chinese Embassy or consulates in the United States for assistance.

The two alerts are valid until Dec. 31, 2019. (Xinhua)
