AS its first batch of postgraduate students are about to finish their studies and step into the society this summer, Shenzhen MSU-BIT University is assisting its students with finding jobs by organizing tours and collaborating with corporations to provide internship opportunities.

The university held a launch ceremony for the campaign yesterday afternoon at its temporary campus in Longgang District. Nearly 20 postgraduate students visited a cross-border company after the launch ceremony.

Xie Huanxin, vice director of the university’s student affairs division, explained that the campaign will last two months and a total of eight batches of students, including undergraduate students, will be organized to take tours of local corporations or government departments.

The campaign was jointly organized by the university and the Human Resources and Social Security Bureau of Longgang District. The bureau is in charge of connecting with local enterprises and organizations to arrange tours as well as to provide internships.

“We plan to offer 80 internship posts to students from Shenzhen MSU-BIT University this summer as a public service,” said Jiang Zuntao, chief of the bureau’s employment section.

He said that posts are available in government departments, hospital laboratories and local corporations such as Huawei.

Jiang said that the bureau hopes to help students find jobs in Longgang as a means to retain talents for the district. “The tours can help students learn about their future work life and at the same time provide an opportunity for the students to communicate with these organizations in person about possible jobs,” said Jiang.

Lin Jing is a second-year postgraduate student. She is now working at the bureau as an intern. Lin said that she started to work there a week ago.

“I hope the other students will also cherish the opportunity to find an internship or maybe even future jobs through the tours because entering the workforce is indeed different from studying and we need first-hand experiences,” said Lin.

Shenzhen MSU-BIT University was jointly established by the Shenzhen Municipal Government, Lomonosov Moscow State University and Beijing Institute of Technology. It started enrolling students in 2017.
