Warriors’ Kevin Durant out for NBA Finals Game 3
    2019-06-06  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

GOLDEN STATE star Kevin Durant will not play in Game 3.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr announced the update at his news conference Tuesday.

“But he’s ramping up his exercise routine, his workouts,” Kerr said.

Durant, who hasn’t played since injuring his calf in Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals against Houston, is getting closer, but the Warriors have been patient and cautious with his return. He planned to get a workout later Tuesday at the team’s practice facility, Kerr said.

“He was here for our film session and for some treatment, but he’ll be getting some work in this afternoon,” Kerr said. “He’s out for tomorrow, but improving. And we’ll just keep updating you when we have something.”

The Warriors have not said this publicly, but targeting a Game 4 return is not out of the question. He will get work in the following days with the opportunity to practice more ahead of Friday’s Game 4.

Durant had been fantastic in the playoffs before the injury, averaging 34.2 points, 5.2 rebounds and shooting 51.3 percent on three-pointers.

Golden State’s success without Durant in the lineup is well documented — Game 6 of the Houston series and the sweep against Portland in the conference finals is enough evidence.

The Warriors are still talented enough to win without Durant. Steph Curry is an MVP, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green are All-Stars and Andre Iguodala is a Finals MVP who made the victory-securing three-pointer against Toronto with seven seconds left in the fourth quarter in Game 2.

But the Warriors lost Game 1, had to hang on tight to hold off the Raptors at the end of Game 2 and Thompson is questionable for Game 3 with a mild hamstring strain.
