阶梯式起床
    2019-06-06  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

Meaning:

“阶梯” means “ladder,” “式” means “style,” and “起床” means “get up.” Though cities are developing fast, people who need to go to work struggle to get out of bed every morning. While only one alarm clock couldn’t wake them up, setting tiered alarm clocks is a special way to force them to get up, in which they set up many alarm clocks, making clocks ring every five minutes. By turning off them, they accumulate buffer time until it’s enough for them to get up.

Example:

A: 今天我在我的第五个闹钟响完时终于起床了,幸好我昨晚睡觉前定了很多个闹钟。

Jīntiān wǒzài wǒde dìwǔgè nàozhōng xiǎngwánshí zhōngyú qǐchuángle ,xìnghǎo wǒ zuówǎn shuìjiàoqián dìngle hěnduōgè nàozhōng 。

It seemed lucky that I set up many alarm clocks before I slept last night and I finally got up when my fifth alarm finished today.

B:我也是。如果不是这么阶梯式起床的话,我一定每天都会迟到。

Wǒyěshì 。Rúguǒ búshì zhème jiētīshì qǐchuáng dehuà ,wǒ yīdìng měitiān dōuhuì chídào 。

Same. I’ll be late every day if I don’t set tiered alarm clocks.
