SHENZHEN University (SZU) announced yesterday that this year it will enroll 6,750 undergraduates, after the two-day National College Entrance Examinations, also known as the gaokao, wrapped up Saturday.

Examination results are due out around June 25 in Shenzhen, and local students are expected to start applying for college admission from about June 28.

A total of 5,407 students from Guangdong Province will be enrolled to study at Shenzhen University this fall, 100 more than last year.

According to the university, 1,079 places will be given to students from outside of Guangdong, with 30 places particularly saved for students from the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.

The remaining 264 places will be left for specially enrolled students who are recommended due to their special talents in areas like sports and foreign languages.

The university will, for the first time, enroll 15 students who graduated from high schools in Beijing, expanding its enrollment range to 28 provinces and cities across the nation.

A new major, preventive medicine, offered by the university’s Health Science Center, is going to take on 30 students from Guangdong Province.

With the purpose of soliciting students with high gaokao scores, the university plans to grant scholarships valued up to 100,000 yuan (US$14,462), recommendations for paid internships and other favorable policies for those with top-ranking gaokao performances.
