5G service to be available later this year
    2019-06-10  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

THE new 5G service will be available to Shenzhen residents in the latter half of the year, the Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported, citing information released by three of the country’s major mobile network operators, namely China Mobile, China Unicom and China Telecom.

Local residents will be able to enjoy the 5G service without changing their current mobile SIMs or handsets, according to the Shenzhen company of China Mobile.

In fact, 5G technology has already been applied in several fields in the city, including public security, telemedicine, transportation, theme parks and hospitality. Some of these applications were said to be the first of their kind in the country and even the world, according to the Daily report.

For example, the Shenzhen company of China Telecom has cooperated with the Tangtou Police Station in Bao’an District to build the world’s first 5G police station. The technology applied in the police station helps officers fight crimes, track down suspects, and enhance communications between police and local residents.

The company also worked with the Shenzhen No. 3 People’s Hospital on the first 5G operating room in the city and collaborated with InterContinental Hotels in Nanshan District on the world’s first 5G smart hotel.

The Shenzhen company of China Mobile built the first 5G base station in Shenshan Special Cooperation Zone and helped the Shenzhen airport achieve 5G network coverage.

The company recently signed a strategic cooperation agreement with relevant government departments to construct the first smart port in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

China Unicom told the Daily that they will issue new packages for 5G services for its subscribers. At present, China Unicom’s Shenzhen branch has enabled 52 areas in the city to be covered by its 5G network.

It has also joined hands with Foxconn to construct a 5G laboratory and with Tencent to develop HD video and cloud gaming.

They have launched trials of 5G long-distance VR teaching in many schools, said the report.
