Graduates celebrate academic achievements
    2019-06-11  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

ELEVEN Grade 12 graduates took to the stage yesterday in celebration of their outstanding academic achievements and the completion of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program (DP) and the New Brunswick Diploma at the International School of Nanshan Shenzhen (ISNS).

This year’s theme, chosen by the Grade 12 students, was “Time Flies.” The theme was selected to reflect the rapid pace of time and the importance of utilizing and seizing each moment — a testament to the student body at ISNS; where each day they take every opportunity to make something greater.

The Class of 2019 applied, and were accepted to, top universities in Canada, the United States, China’s Hong Kong, the United Kingdom and other universities in Europe.

Prominent figures from the community were in attendance including the ISNS chairman, Dr. Francis Pang, and members of the Pang family. Government officials also attended the event, including Liu Jinying, section chief of the Management Division for Schools Run by Nongovernment Sectors under the Shenzhen Municipal Education Bureau, and Liu Shiqi, section chief of the Basic Education Division and head of the Foreign Exchange and Cooperation Office under the Nanshan District Education Bureau. Additionally, the leadership team from the Shenzhen (Nanshan) Concord College of Sino-Canada was in attendance. ISNS alumni, parents and friends also joined the occasion to support this memorable milestone.

The ceremony highlighted the incredible talents of the students as well as the experiences they had all shared during their time at ISNS. In addition to the presentation of diplomas, three students were specially noted for their incredible dedication to academics and the ISNS community.

The Birks Medal, awarded to a devoted ISNS student who exhibited the most leadership in student affairs, was presented to Long F. The Governor General’s Award, presented to the student with the highest overall academic standing in both Grade 11 and Grade 12, was bestowed upon this year’s valedictorian, Christine T. The Head of School Award, presented to a student who made significant contributions to the school, was awarded to Olivia J.

When asked to reflect on their time at ISNS, the graduates noted the importance of gratitude, especially to their teachers, classmates and parents, for helping them along the way. Also, the supportive community at ISNS helped encourage greater courage to try new things. Some even noted that because of the passion of the teachers at ISNS, that same passion had been ignited in them and they were excited to explore more at university.

Cumulatively, the ISNS Class of 2019 has been offered US$237,350 in scholarships at this time of the year, which is an indication to the outstanding academic achievements of the students as well as their dedication to the school community.

“We’re incredibly proud of this year’s graduates for everything they’ve achieved, as well as all their contributions to our school community,” praised Patrick Boekhoud, ISNS MYP/DP principal.
