Robert Downey Jr. has an Iron Man-like plan to save the planet
    2019-06-11  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

ROBERT DOWNEY JR. may have left his role as Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but now he’s planning to help save the real world.

Speaking at Amazon’s Re: Mars conference in Las Vegas, the actor announced the start of a new organization called The Footprint Coalition, which is committed to cleaning up the planet with the use of advanced technologies. “Between robotics and nanotechnology, we could clean up the planet significantly, if not totally, in 10 years,” Downey Jr. said.

He revealed that he had been told about the possibilities of the technology a few weeks before the conference by a panel of experts, before joking: “God, I love experts. They’re like Wikipedia with character defects.” Throughout the talk, Downey Jr. spoke about the significance of artificial intelligence, arguing that it’s a technological advancement that gives him hope.

He also admitted to feeling concerned about the environment and his own personal impact on it.

“I have this quiet sense of crisis. I’m a one-man-carbon-footprint-nightmare-colossus,” he said, admitting that he has contributed to the climate crisis more than others with his carbon footprint.

Downey Jr.’s real-life Iron Man antics have since been praised by his “Avengers” co-star Chris Evans, with the “Captain America” star simply tweeting: “Legend.”
