Community parks open for children
    2019-06-12  08:53    Shenzhen Daily

FUWEI Community Children’s Park, the largest of its kind in Bao’an District, was recently opened to the public in Fuyong Subdistrict, offering a safe and interesting venue for children to engage in outdoor activities.

The construction and operation of the Fuwei children’s park is an important move as part of Bao’an’s efforts to build a women- and children-friendly district, said Ma Hong, chairman of Shenzhen Women’s Federation.

Covering an area of 3,600 square meters in the Fuwei community, the park caters to children between the ages of 3 and 12. It is divided into three parts: a children’s playground, an outdoor development area and a shaded relaxation area, offering a safe place for children to play and a nice place for their parents to cool off while keeping their children company.

According to the Fuyong Subdistrict Office, local children were involved in the design of the park from the very beginning. A painting competition invited local children to draw their ideal park when the park was in the design and preparation period. The subdistrict office invited children to visit the park during its construction, soliciting their opinions regarding safety and other issues at the park. “Their proposals had been compiled and submitted to related government agencies for reference before the park was completed,” said an unidentified staffer with Fuyong Subdistrict Office.

According to the subdistrict office, a series of activities regarding family education and psychological consultation, as well as the promotion of laws and reading, will be organized at the park for local residents.

“Children living in urban villages have few options for outdoor activities,” said an official with the subdistrict office. “They are in urgent need for a safe place to play outdoors.”

According to the official, the subdistrict will build five mini children’s parks in urban villages and a 30,000-square-meter sports park with two basketball courts and three soccer fields.

The official said the construction of outdoor activity areas for children is at the top of their agenda for this year.

So far, the Banshan Mini Children’s Park in Xingwei Community has been put into service, and other mini parks are under construction. (SD News)
